Book Review, "The Boston Girl" by Anita Diamant

I just finished reading Anita Diamant's, "The Boston Girl"...Always a pleasure to read her stories...She recounts places and times of the past as if she had just been there, her details always give life to her stories and characters. This book was written like a memoir, the character telling her granddaughter how the events of her life made her the woman she'd become...at the present age of 85.

The one thing you'll notice in this story is the historical events and changes that were fought for, fought to give independence to both children and adults. The hardships the women and children of our country went through and endured to gain and hold on to civil and moral rights. Discrimination isn't shirked or glossed over in this story...it's all set out for you, as remembered by this character, Addy Baum.

Anita Diamant puts it all out on the table for you to see and try to live with. The selfishness within of our country was heartbreaking, just as it continues to be heartbreaking today. But the generosity of the human spirit is there too, to counter, and re-counter, allowing survival to be of the utmost importance in this whole game of human existence.

I think anyone who lives in the Boston, Massachusetts area will be especially rewarded by this historical fiction story.
Read and enjoy!
