The United States is a country that has grown up with a constitution that speaks to equality and pro-rights, but early in its history there were rights that were the “laws of the land”, where people carried guns to protect themselves against the Native Americans, so the “Americans” could go across the land and inhabit a space to live, hopefully in peace. But killing was inevitable. Slaughters of human and animal life, raping the land and anyone who got in the way. Land Barons ruled where they settled.
We needed to develop laws to prevent this inequality, and nothing has changed, we keep developing laws, except now the laws are bought and paid for, becoming divisive against the masses, to the advantage of the Almighty Corporations, “Land Barons”. Now, land space is smaller and expensive, we have more people in tighter and more confined spaces who want to live in peace. I read a paper once that explained what rats do when confined to small spaces, they turn on each other and kill for survival of the fittest.
We've now incubated people who are anti-everything - fighting the laws, and along comes uncontrollable anger and hate...Freedom is a double edge sword.
When people can't agree on what is right and what is wrong, what is morally acceptable and what is not, and because everyone disagrees, extremes take offense at what is done or said against THEIR beliefs.
I was born and raised in the West, and yes I played cowboys and Indians and wore a toy gun on my hip and a hat on my head, I was a “Tomboy”.
Growing up we never thought Indians were bad people, we simply pretended; we never thought about whether what we did was right or wrong, moral or immoral, it was on TV and it was enacted; there were no holes in a body and no blood spilling...it was all okay---and somehow we managed to become civilized, with morals. Since then, I had acquired a real revolver. My husband was a PD, then a C.H.P.--retired from the Calif Highway Patrol and became a U.S. Marshal. We had guns in the house.
After the 50’s, we became much more sensitized to moral issues, at least I had. Enter the Vietnam war - Enter the 60’s to present time...Enter Desensitization!
Anyone out there that is psychotic, without morals, and has a cause, is going to use a gun in the worst way possible, because there is access, and they know how to pull a trigger - They’ve been taught! This is how they get rid of what they deem unacceptable, making the world into a better place, according to their law. Violence in every entertainment medium has gone to the extreme, and in my opinion, and along with a few experts, has caused desensitization, and has given the okay to the public to enact violence.

There has to be a middle ground between being overly sensitive and desensitization. Taking guns away from society now would be impossible and would cause a revolution, unless you can convince everyone the moral high road is to society's best interest. Good luck.
I could give you the answers, but I know most of you know them. I honestly believe it's too late anyway, because we are on the road of no return...too much money has been invested in the brain washing business of Corporate greed.
All we can do now is react and be on the defensive. Like I told my granddaughter who wants to continue to play volleyball; you have to be aggressive, the offense, because once you put yourself on the defensive, you'll lose control of the ball.
Our country lost the ball because the majority of people took their eyes off of it.
